The sport side racks are designed to support soft saddlebags off of the bodywork. They were originally designed for a pair of ATV tankbags that were used as mini saddlebags. However, I have used them successfully with larger, pannier-style bags. There is also an optional loop available to support full-size bags over the exhaust. The racks in the above pictures are bolt-on aluminum, but the production racks are made from stainless steel for better wear resistance.
The key feature of these racks is the quick-release mechanism. No longer will you have to unbolt your racks to pull the side covers for maintenance. Just bolt the end posts on to your bike, and when you want to install the racks, pop them on and lock them with the pins.
